Emma Bridgewater at the sunday car boot sale!

Ok, Ms Emma Bridgewater was not at the sunday car boot sale in person but her goods were!
I'd better start at the begining instead of partway through the story hadn't I? I had planned on a nice jaunt down the riverbank with a packed lunch but the weather forecast stated rain in the afternoon so the dh offered to take me to the HUGE car boot instead. Now that's an offer I couldn't pass up :-)
So there I was on a wild and windy field at 7am viewing a mass of stall holders unpacking their junk.... sorry treasures. The dh lingered behind me like a bad smell so I hovered pulling out bits of rubbish from under stalls which I had simply no interest in until he got bored and wandered off on his own. I know that sounds a bit odd but I simply can't cope with someone watching me when I'm treasure hunting. That disapproving stare and the constant, "What do you want that for?" "Don't look at that its horrible" and finally the , "where you going to put it?" whimper. Ugggh!

So, first treasures of the day were my Emma Bridgewater tins. I simply adore the blue lining!

First up is Miss Dotty Biscuit Barrel

then Miss Dotty Cake Tin

Also found on the same stall was a set of three wicker storage baskets. I got both tins and all three baskets for £4. They had some red gingham curtains on there too but sadly too small for my windows.
And to prove that things I find are useful on arriving home (once they have been disinfected) I then put the baskets to good use, storing my under the sink cleaning supplies and veggies.

The dh thankfully made an appearance at this point and took back my first lot of delights back to the car.

Then I found a huge pile of gardening books written by Geoff Hamilton all 4 for £1.

I used to love watching Gardeners World when Geoff H presented it. Such a down to earth fella who liked to find ways to save you money, not like that lot now who seem to want you to spend it as fast as possible.

In fact I seemed to buy an awful lot of books at this booty! The dh obligingly took this lot back to the car while I carried on going round.

Next the dh found me gazing in astonishment at something bulky on a mat behind a woman's stall....

"What have you seen now?" he groaned, probably thinking about trudging back to the car with another load of stuff (we'd parked a long, long way away too).

I dived across a mountain of stuff lying on the floor and clasped two cushions....
Ikea Alfhild ones complete with original inners at £1 each. I've shown the DH these on ebay and he's seen the silly prices they've gone for on there (sometimes £25 each). I've already got a set of two so now I've a set of four and even the DH was smiling at my bargain.

I also found a packet of perfume. Well a bottle of perfume in a crumpled packet. Vanderbilt for £1. Many moons ago I was given this perfume by an employer as a Christmas gift and I've always loved it ever since yet for some reason haven't bought any for years.
Finally, I bought this gold framed mirror for £2 with the intention of painting it (I'll put it on my to-do-list)

So I had a REALLY good day on Sunday despite being half frozen by a bitter driving wind that seemed to blow straight through me. I hope you all had as nice a weekend as I did?

You got some fab bargains there. I was laughing out loud at the way you told your 'carboot' story. I think husbands all over the country say the same things every Sunday morning! LOL! X

Didn't you do well too ... I don't think I have ever seen Bridgewater at our local boots .... as for men they must all be the same ... I lost mine on row 1 and didn't see him again till the last one ... has it's compensations (LOL) and now I have my nifty granny trolley I don't need him so much as bag carrier. The number of times I have turned to ask his opinion on something and found myself talking to a total stranger who isn't the slightest bit interested!!! x

Well done on the booting. I loved Geoff Hamilton too. Don't remember him on Gardener's World but have a few of his books and the videos of Paradise and Cottage Gardens. Cottage Gardens is my absolute fave.

Wow, you got some terrific bargains! Boot sales are just fabulous. I love the smell of Vanderbilt, it reminds me of my childhood, as my mam always wore this perfume. xxxx

Ooh I like your Emma Bridgewater. I laughed at your description of car booting with husband in tow. Very often I'm stranded in the middle of a field with something I can't carry while trying to direct my husband to me by talking to him on the phone so he can come and help.

'I'm by the burger van'
'No, not that burger van, the other one'
'Yes, I can see you now, can you see me?'

And then he catches sight of what I have bought and tries to rearrange his expression not to say 'What on EARTH have you bought?' by the time he gets to me.

Did you do well at the boot sale, esp on the EB bits.

I can completely understand what you mean about treasure hunting under someone's watchful eye, it can be so off putting.

great bargains! - I must say, I don't like hubby standing behind me whilst I rummage as he too says exactly the same - 'what do you need that for'!

I'm so jealous of your Geoff books...I have the two on the left but not the others. He's my absolute favourite gardening guru...I only ever turn to Geoff when I need a hand in the garden! What a sad loss...couldn't stick that Titchmarsh bloke!

Hi there, I am hosting a book swap over on my blog. It is a permanent feature, which will always be on my blog, it is not a one off, like the rose theme swap I'm hosting. I have listed a load of my books which I am willing to swap, take a look, there may be some you fancy. If you would like to list books which you no longer want, and are willing to swap, just contact me at rosehyacinth@hotmail.co.uk, or leave a comment on my blog, with your name, the name of your blog and the books you wish to swap, and I will type them up and post them on the swap page, so the more and more people who participate, the wider the range of books there will be to choose from, and remember, it will always be there on my blog.
Take Care

Great finds, aren't boot sales the best, I can't wait until Sunday comes around again! I'd never take my DH he just doesn't get boot sales (shopping in general really) and leaves all that to me :). I like browsing aorund on my own so I can stop at the stalls I want to and take as long as I like to rummage.

Oh, I LOVE those tins. I've never heard of Emma Bridgewater. Now I'll have to look her up. My hubby never comes to the markets with me which I'm glad of. Sometimes I'll take my girls with me and bribe them with a slushy afterwards for carrying my things.
