Dark Mornings

Is it just me or is everyone else having trouble waking now the dark mornings have arrived?

Then dark evenings too. I keep thinking its about 8pm and its only half four!

Anyhow I was stuck for what to blog about and then remembered this old poem my Mum used to quote to me when I was a kid and wanted to lie in bed. Its only recently I came across the whole poem in a magazine so cut it out and kept it for old times sake.

Anyone else heard it? My guess it's one of those poems the old school marm's you to drill in to young scholars heads and my poor mother had been brainwashed into remembering it.

Morning

The lark is up to meet the sun,

The bee is on the wing,

The ant her labour has begun,

The woods with music ring.

Shall birds and bees and ants be wise,

While I my moments waste?

Oh, let me with the morning rise,

And to my duties haste.

Why should I sleep till beams of morn

Their light and glory shed?

Immortal beings were not born

To waste their time in bed.

Jane Taylor (1783-1824)

Dark days of winter are surely upon us. I've had to use our central heating for an hour or two on the coldest evenings (something i hate doing as I don't like the resulting gas bill), the draft excluder is behind the front door, the thick curtains are shaken out and ready to put up in the lounge and extra blankets are on the bed. Instead of a bottom sheet I'm using a huge furry fleece blanket and we even take fur throws to bed on cold nights. Oh yes and we wear (un)sexy bed socks ;-)
Haven't got as far as wearing a hat in bed yet (like wee willie winkie) but if the gas and electric go up again its a step I might have to take LOL.
So, how are you preparing for winter?
